Setup answers and troubleshooting tips for connecting Fullframe to your Mac.

How do I prepare my Mac for its first connection?

On your Mac, open System Settings > General > Sharing and enable Screen Sharing. Click the info button beside Screen Sharing to confirm your macOS user account is allowed to connect. If you also want to use Fullframe's built-in terminal or remote FileVault unlock, enable Remote Login in the same Sharing pane.

Why is High Performance mode unavailable on my session?

Apple's High Performance mode requires an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later. If you are connecting to an Intel Mac, an earlier version of macOS, or explicitly selected Standard mode for a low-bandwidth connection, Fullframe uses Standard mode instead.

How do I connect away from my home or office network?

Install Tailscale on your Mac and on your iPhone or iPad, signing into the same tailnet. In Fullframe, link Tailscale from the Macs screen. Fullframe will list your tailnet Macs automatically so you can connect from mobile data or external Wi-Fi.

How do I transfer files between my device and my Mac?

In a session, open the More menu and choose Send File to Mac… to put items from Files or Photos in your Mac's Downloads folder. Choose Get Finder's Selection to bring whatever is selected in the Mac's frontmost Finder window into Files on your iPhone or iPad.

How does FileVault unlock after a restart work?

With Remote Login turned on before the restart, an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later accepts its disk password over Remote Login at the FileVault screen. In the Macs list, open the Mac's menu and choose Unlock After Restart…, then sign in with an account that can unlock the disk. Screen Sharing is available once the Mac finishes starting up.
